Curriculum

12h

Week 1: Saturday 1/17/2205

You will begin by meeting your instructor, Dr. Sultan, and getting to know your classmates. We will lay the groundwork for the course by: Understanding the "Why": Discovering the powerful course goals and the reasons why Python is one of the most in-demand and versatile programming languages today. Essential Setup: You will be guided through the critical first steps of installing the core tools you'll need: Installing Python: Setting up the necessary interpreter on your machine. Installing PyCharm: Learning to use this professional-grade Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to write and organize your code efficiently. Your First Code: You will have the hands-on experience of writing and running your very first Python program in the first session. Curriculum Roadmap: We will review the complete course syllabus, so you know exactly what topics and skills you will master throughout the program.
Week 1: Saturday 1/17/2205

Week 1: Sunday 1/18/2025

In this lecture will go through the following topics: - Variables: Explain assignment, naming rules, and re-assignment. - Integers and Floats: Discuss numeric types and basic arithmetic operators (+,−,∗,/,%,//,∗∗). - Strings: Introduce string literals, indexing, slicing, and common string methods (e.g., .upper(), .lower(), .strip(), string formatting with f-strings).

Week 2: Saturday 1/24/2025

In this lesson will talk about the following 3 topics: Lists: - Covers creating, indexing, and slicing lists. - Focuses on key list methods such as .append(), .pop(), and .sort(). Tuples: - Explores the concept of immutability (cannot be changed after creation). - Covers common use cases, particularly for returning multiple values from a function. Sets: - Focuses on their primary use for storing unique elements. - Covers basic set operations like union and intersection.

Week 2: Sunday 1/25/2025

In this lecture will cover the following topics: - Dictionaries: Introduce key-value pairs, accessing values, adding/modifying entries, and iterating through keys/values/items. - Input Function & Boolean Discuss comparison operators (==,!=,) and how the input() function works (stressing it returns a string). - Assign the Project

Week 3: Saturday 1/31/2025

In this lecture we will cover the following topics: - If/Else Statements: Explain if, elif, and else. Focus on indentation and nested conditions. Run several logic-based exercises. - For Loops: Focus on iterating over lists, strings, and dictionaries. Introduce range() and break/continue statements.

Week 3: Sunday 2/1/2025

In this lecture we will cover the following topics: - While Loops: Focus on conditions that control loop execution and preventing infinite loops. - Creating Functions: Define functions, parameters, arguments, return values, and scope (local vs. global variables).

Week 4: Saturday 2/7/2025

Week 4: Sunday 2/8/2025 – This will be a 3 hours session from 9:00 AM till 12:00 PM

In this lecture we will cover the following topics: - Sympy Library - Project Presentations Students present their project - Q&A and Next Steps: Address final questions, discuss next learning steps
